Application

 

N-(9-Fluorenylmethoxycarbonyl)-D-phenylalanine chloride (FMOC-D-phenylalanine chloride) is a commonly used amino acid derivative in peptide synthesis. It is used as an amino acid protecting group during the synthesis of peptides and proteins.

 

In peptide synthesis, the amino and carboxyl groups of each amino acid residue require protection to prevent cross-linking or polymerization during peptide chain assembly. FMOC-D-phenylalanine chloride is a highly effective amino acid protecting group that effectively protects the amino group of the phenylalanine residue from reaction during peptide chain synthesis.

 

When Fmoc-D-Phe-Cl reacts with an amino acid, its chlorine atom is replaced by the amino group of the amino acid, forming a stable Fmoc-protected amino acid derivative. This derivative remains stable during subsequent peptide synthesis steps until the Fmoc protecting group is removed under appropriate conditions.
