Application

L-Tryptophan Methyl Ester Hydrochloride is an amino acid derivative that can be used in the preparation of mesoporous silica.

To prepare mesoporous silica, 9.96g of L-Tryptophan Methyl Ester Hydrochloride, 90mL of chloroform, and 11mL of triethylamine are mixed together. Then, a solution of myristoyl chloride in chloroform is slowly added to the mixture. After the addition is complete, the reaction is allowed to proceed at 25℃, and the progress is checked using thin-layer chromatography. When the spots of the starting material, L-Tryptophan Methyl Ester Hydrochloride, disappear gradually, the reaction is considered complete. The product is then extracted with water, saturated NaHCO3 solution, and saturated NaCl solution successively. The solid residue and lower organic phase are filtered and concentrated to dryness under reduced pressure. The resulting crude product is further treated by dispersing it in absolute ethanol and refluxing it with concentrated hydrochloric acid at 80℃ for 12 hours to remove the template.
