Application

Ipratropium bromide is an anticholinergic drug that is commonly used to treat chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and bronchial asthma. Its mechanism of action is to block M1, M2, and M3 receptors, inhibiting the action of the cholinergic nerves on airway smooth muscle, leading to smooth muscle relaxation and airway dilation. Additionally, ipratropium bromide also controls the secretion of mucous glands and improves ciliary movement, reducing the formation of airway obstructions due to mucus accumulation and improving ventilation. At the same time, the reduction in mucus secretion also reduces irritation of the bronchial epithelium, reducing the risk of bronchial spasms.

Ipratropium bromide is indicated for the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and bronchial asthma. It is particularly suitable for patients who cannot tolerate the adverse reactions such as muscle tremors and tachycardia caused by β-agonists. Additionally, ipratropium bromide can be used in combination with β-agonists to enhance their efficacy, such as in combination with fenoterol to formulate a metered-dose inhaler (BERODU-AL) for the treatment of asthma, chronic bronchitis, and emphysema.
